Chapter 1:

Boima and Bendu, a set of fraternal Liberian twins from a mixed tribal marriage (a Vai mother and Kpgelle father), are excited as they accompany their mother from Kakata, Liberia, to the big market in Monrovia.  When Ma Yatta asks why they are so excited, they answer that they have "plenty-plenty money" saved from working for months on the rice farm with their uncle and that they are going to search the market to buy a "Special Something" with the money.
